It is particularly useful for remote employees, freelancers, business owners and other applicants whose file involves employment, Social Security, family or cross-border document questions.

Legal Filing for the Applicable Route
For qualifying Spain DNV applicants legally in Spain, counsel may use the UGE in-country authorization route. For Portugal D8 cases, the process generally begins with the applicable consular residence-visa stage and proceeds to the AIMA residence-permit stage after arrival.

Employment & Social Security Legal Review Where Relevant
For Spain DNV employee cases, counsel can assess remote-work permission, employment documentation and the applicable Social Security position. A U.S. W-2 employee does not automatically qualify for Form USA/E 1; coverage depends on the U.S.–Spain Social Security Agreement and the actual employment facts.

Where included in the legal engagement, counsel monitors the filing and handles ordinary procedural requests for additional information or clarification. Appeals, litigation, exceptional filings and third-party costs are not assumed to be included unless the package or lawyer engagement expressly says so.

🇪🇸 How the Spain Turnkey Route Works
Spain gives qualifying international teleworkers two distinct pathways.
- Consular DNV: the telework visa is valid for a maximum of one year.
- In-country UGE authorization: an applicant who is legally in Spain may apply directly, personally or through an authorized representative.
- Residence duration: the in-country international-teleworker residence authorization can be granted for up to three years.
- Statutory decision period: Spain’s international-teleworker residence procedure has a 20-day statutory resolution period. Counsel should advise on how positive administrative silence applies to the specific filing.
🇵🇹 How the Portugal Turnkey Route Works
Portugal should not be described as a direct AIMA-from-abroad equivalent to Spain’s UGE route.
- First stage: qualifying D8 applicants generally obtain the appropriate Portuguese residence visa through the consular/VFS process.
- After arrival: the residence-permit application is made with AIMA using the valid residence visa and supporting documents.
- Current permit duration: AIMA states that the temporary remote-work residence permit is valid for two years from issuance and renewable for successive three-year periods.
- Appointments: AIMA currently describes residence-permit filing by appointment, with electronic functionality being implemented for holders of residence visas.

What is the main advantage of the Turnkey Nomad Package over the Consulate-Ready Pack?
The Consulate-Ready Pack focuses on administrative document preparation for self-filers or clients who already have counsel. The Turnkey package adds legal eligibility review, filing strategy and representation by independent licensed immigration counsel for the supported route, while our team continues to coordinate the North American documents.
Can I get a three-year Spain Digital Nomad residence authorization by applying from inside Spain?
A qualifying international teleworker who is legally present in Spain can apply for the residence authorization through UGE, personally or through an authorized representative. Current Spanish government guidance states that this residence authorization can be granted for three years, while the consular telework visa has a maximum validity of one year. Eligibility for the in-country route should be confirmed before travel or filing.
Is Portugal filed directly with AIMA from the United States or Canada?
Generally no. Portugal’s D8 residence route begins with the appropriate residence-visa process through the Portuguese consular/VFS system. After arrival in Portugal with the valid residence visa, the applicant proceeds to the AIMA residence-permit stage. This is different from Spain’s qualifying in-country UGE route.
Are attorney fees included in the $3,850 base package?
The package is designed to include the standard legal services stated in the order and applicable lawyer engagement for the supported route. Government fees, taxes, extraordinary legal work, appeals, litigation, third-party costs and services outside the stated scope should not be assumed to be included unless expressly listed. Review the order form and engagement terms before purchase.
Does Spain guarantee a decision in 20 business days?
No. The international-teleworker residence procedure has a statutory 20-day resolution period; it should not be described as a guaranteed 20-business-day approval. The lawyer handling the application can advise on the legal effect of the statutory period and positive administrative silence in the specific case.
What happens if immigration authorities request more information?
Where ordinary procedural responses are included in the lawyer’s engagement, counsel can respond to requests for clarification or additional documents during the initial application. The exact scope matters: appeals, litigation, exceptional proceedings or significant new work are not automatically included unless the engagement expressly provides for them.
I’m a U.S. W-2 employee. Does the Turnkey package guarantee Form USA/E 1?
No. The U.S.–Spain Social Security Agreement determines which country’s system applies based on the employment facts. When U.S. coverage applies, the Social Security Administration can issue a Certificate of Coverage proving exemption from compulsory Spanish coverage. Counsel can review the employment structure, but neither the package nor the visa itself guarantees eligibility for Form USA/E 1.
